Cecilia Battaini is an illustrator, surface designer, and art educator based in Milan, Italy, known for whimsical, nature-inspired illustrations that celebrate growth, healing, and imagination. Born in 1993, she describes herself as “a flower among flowers,” a sentiment reflected in her work, where flora takes center stage alongside animals, mushrooms, fruits, and vegetables—all drawn from a deeply personal connection to the natural world.

Cecilia’s creative journey began in childhood, inspired by nature’s rhythms, colors, and quiet storytelling. During a difficult period in her teenage years, she discovered an unexpected love for drawing flowers—an experience that became both a creative outlet and a form of emotional healing. Today, she describes her practice as the expression of her “inner garden,” shaped by feelings, memories, dreams, and emotions, with the intention of helping others nurture their own inner worlds.

Entirely self-taught as an illustrator, Cecilia later studied fashion design, where she discovered the world of patterns and surface design. That shift opened new creative possibilities, allowing her floral illustrations to move beyond standalone artwork into repeat patterns and applied design. After a brief period working in fashion, her career changed dramatically when she lost her job during the COVID pandemic—an event she embraced as an opportunity to fully commit to her art.

In 2021, Cecilia founded her own brand and began building a career centered on illustration and surface design. Her work is hand-drawn with colored pencils, then carefully scanned and digitally arranged into patterns and illustrations using Affinity software. While her studio is based in Milan, she often embraces a digital nomad lifestyle—traveling with her sketchbook and pencils, photographing plants and flowers, and transforming those moments into artwork back in the studio.

Today, Cecilia’s illustrations are licensed and commissioned across products like wallpapers, fabrics, home décor, greeting cards, and wall art. Grateful to do what she loves for a living, she sees her work as a way to bring joy, beauty, and quiet healing into everyday life—one illustration at a time — in collaboration with DenimINK.
